Amazon has launched new thin client devices that resemble the Fire TV Cube, allowing enterprise users to access virtual desktop environments like Amazon WorkSpaces. Priced at $195, the thin clients aim to replace expensive desktops and laptops, offering a more cost-effective solution. The devices offload processing power to the AWS Cloud, ensuring data security even if the device is lost or stolen. IT departments can remotely manage the devices and configure groups with their own policies and access controls. The thin clients support on-device authentication and integration with Amazon's virtual desktop services. Virtual Desktop, a popular app for PC VR users, has received a major update to support the new Quest 3 and Quest Pro headsets. Sightful has unveiled Spacetop, an "augmented reality laptop" that combines a pair of AR goggles with a keyboard, creating a large virtual desktop computing environment. The company has raised $61m in funding to date and is soliciting interest for those who would like to be part of the product's early access launch, which will cost $2,000 for the complete Spacetop computer. The device uses a pair of customized Nreal Light AR goggles with 6DOF head-tracking, a 53° field-of-view, and 1,920 × 1,080 resolution per-eye. The Spacetop base includes a full keyboard, trackpad, and USB & DisplayPort ports, and a Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 processor, 8GB of RAM, 256GB of storage, and a built-in webcam for video calls.
