"Retail Giants Walmart and Kroger Place Risky Bets on Struggling Indoor Farming Industry"

Walmart and Kroger are investing in the indoor farming industry, despite concerns about its sustainability. Indoor farming companies like Eden Green Technology are aiming to produce fresh produce year-round while using less water and land. However, some indoor farming companies have faced financial difficulties and filed for bankruptcy. Skeptics question the profitability of indoor farming due to high energy costs associated with artificial lighting. Critics argue that investment should be directed towards practical solutions for outdoor farmers. Indoor farming can also create new pest problems that require aggressive management. Despite the challenges, some companies believe they are on the right track and emphasize their use of natural light and soil-based growing methods. However, experts remain skeptical about the profitability of indoor farming operations.

"Revolutionizing Fresh Produce: Texas Vertical Farms Disrupt Supply Chains"

Eden Green Technology, a farming technology company based in Texas, is utilizing indoor vertical farming to disrupt the fresh produce supply chain. Their vertical greenhouse, located near a Walmart distribution center, can grow 2 million pounds of lettuce per year, reducing the need for long-distance transportation. Another company, Revol Greens, has also opened a large controlled environment agriculture lettuce facility in Texas. Meanwhile, Mexico has imposed a 50% tariff on white corn exports from the US, as part of a trade dispute over genetically modified corn. Quality Custom Distribution is opening a new distribution center in Texas, and US Customs and Border Protection officers seized nearly 900,000 fentanyl pills in California.

"Growing Food on Mars: Innovations and Discoveries"

Interstellar Lab, a startup based in Paris and Los Angeles, has designed a controlled-environment capsule system called NUCLEUS that could allow crops to be grown in space, including on Mars. The system uses vertical farming, a method of growing crops without soil in a controlled environment, and recirculates water to create very little waste. The system is moving to a lab in Cape Canaveral, Florida, to participate in the final phase of NASA’s Deep Space Food Challenge, with the winners announced in April. Vertical farming is considered the only option for agriculture on Mars, according to experts.
