Unlicensed California Lab Found with 20 Infectious Agents, CDC Reports
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and local authorities have discovered infectious agents, including coronavirus, HIV, and hepatitis, in an unlicensed laboratory in Fresno, California. The warehouse contained lab mice, medical waste, hazardous materials, and medical devices developed on-site. Fresno officials euthanized hundreds of mice and found thousands of unlabeled fluids and suspected biological material. The investigation revealed inhumane treatment of lab mice and the use of foreign chemicals without the required federal permit. The CDC, along with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration and the California Department of Public Health, Food and Drug Branch, were involved in the investigation.
