Revolutionary 3D Printer Uses Sound Waves to Repair Organs

Scientists have developed a new 3D printing technique called Deep-Penetrating Acoustic Volumetric Printing (DAVP) that uses ultrasonic waves and a specially designed substance called "sono-ink" to create structures within the human body. The technique has shown promise in printing complex shapes through layers of biomaterials like skin, muscle, and bone, and has the potential to repair broken bones, patch up torn tissue, and deliver medicine. While more research is needed before human trials can begin, the team behind DAVP is optimistic about its future applications in medical settings.

Painless Drug Delivery through Wearable Patch.

MIT researchers have developed a wearable patch that applies painless ultrasonic waves to the skin, creating tiny channels that drugs can pass through. The patch is made of PDMS, a silicone-based polymer that can adhere to the skin without tape. In tests using pig skin, the researchers showed that when they delivered niacinamide using the ultrasound patch, the amount of drug that penetrated the skin was 26 times greater than the amount that could pass through the skin without ultrasonic assistance.
