Triple Threat: Tropical Storm Katia Forms, Idalia Hits Bermuda, and New System Targets Caribbean

Hurricane Idalia has transitioned into a post-tropical system and is currently affecting Bermuda, while Tropical Storm Katia has formed as the 11th named storm of the hurricane season. Another potential tropical system is expected to form off the west coast of Africa and could target the Caribbean. Tropical Storm Gert is still present but is expected to be absorbed by Idalia. The National Hurricane Center gives the new system a 20% chance of forming in the next two days and a 70% chance in the next seven.

"From Depression to Hurricane: The Transformation of Tropical Storm Katia"

Tropical Depression Katia has strengthened into Tropical Storm Katia, located 580 miles northwest of The Cabo Verde Islands. It is moving towards the north-northwest at 13 mph with maximum sustained winds of 40 mph. The storm is expected to weaken and could become a remnant low by Sunday evening. There are currently no coastal watches or warnings in effect.

Idalia's Trail of Flooding and Damage in the Southeast

The National Hurricane Center is currently tracking six systems in the Atlantic Ocean, including the remnants of Hurricane Idalia, which may restrengthen over the Labor Day weekend. Tropical Storm Katia is expected to form from Invest 94L, while Hurricane Gert has returned as a tropical depression and could become a tropical storm again. Other systems being monitored include Hurricane Franklin, Tropical Storm Jose, and a tropical wave in the Central Atlantic.
