Both ruling parties of Telugu states, BRS and YSRCP, have opted out of opposition unity moves ahead of 2024 elections. While BRS is trying to expand on its own to other states, YSRCP prefers not to be part of any pre-poll alliance at the national level. With TDP and JSP inclined for an alliance with the BJP, it appears that there will be no contribution from Telugu states to the opposition unity at the national level.
On the 100th birth anniversary of former Andhra Pradesh chief minister and TDP founder N.T. Rama Rao, his son and Tollywood actor Nandamuri Balakrishna and grandson and popular actor Jr NTR paid floral tributes at NTR Ghat. Balakrishna said that he considers it his good fortune to be born as son of NTR and that the birth centenary of NTR is being celebrated not just in Telugu states but across the world. NTR had floated TDP in 1982 on the slogan of Telugu self-respect and served as three-time chief minister of Andhra Pradesh.
