In celebration of Halloween, the Juno spacecraft captured a spooky image of Jupiter during its 54th flyby of the gas giant. The image, processed by citizen scientist Vladimir Tarasov, shows turbulent storms on Jupiter's surface resembling a golem. This highlights our tendency for pareidolia, where we perceive meaningful images in random patterns.
NASA's Juno probe has captured a spooky image of a ghoulish 'face' on Jupiter during its 54th close flyby of the gas giant. The image shows Jupiter's moody clouds forming contorted eyes, nose, and a mouth, creating an eerie appearance. Half of the image is in darkness, adding to the creepiness. This is not the first time Juno has produced such an image, as the phenomenon of pareidolia often occurs when observing Jupiter's clouds. The image was released on what would have been Picasso's 142nd birthday. Juno's mission is to study Jupiter's composition, polar magnetosphere, gravity field, magnetic field, atmosphere, weather, and its moons.
