Australia's SpIRIT nanosatellite has successfully completed its commissioning phase, taking its first space selfie and preparing to detect cosmic gamma-ray bursts, marking a significant milestone for Australian space technology and international scientific collaboration.
Astrobotic's Peregrine moon lander, which recently launched on the debut flight of United Launch Alliance's Vulcan Centaur rocket, has sent back another in-space selfie showing a sliver of Earth. The lander, carrying 20 payloads including NASA's science instruments, is currently about 80% of the way to the moon and is expected to reach its destination in about 15 days. However, a propellant leak will prevent it from attempting a moon landing as planned.
