"Arecibo Observatory Upgrades with Wideband Cryogenic System for Enhanced Capabilities"

The Arecibo Observatory's 12-meter telescope has been upgraded with a new cooled receiver system that operates at a wider bandwidth and cryogenic temperatures, allowing for improved space observations. Recent tests have shown its capabilities in detecting emissions from dark molecular clouds, observing pulsars, and capturing images of solar flares. These upgrades are expected to expand the telescope's potential for future research and educational projects.

Hubble Space Telescope Resumes Science Operations After Gyro Scare

The Hubble Space Telescope has resumed science observations after a three-week assessment of a problematic gyroscope, which is crucial for the telescope's pointing system. Three of the six gyros installed in 2009 have failed, and one of the remaining three has shown signs of wear. The gyroscope's performance worsened in November, causing the spacecraft to go into safe mode multiple times. Engineers gathered data on the gyro's health and found it to be working well during tests. NASA is still studying reboost options for the Hubble.
