A black bear was spotted in Randolph County, Southern Illinois, and authorities are urging the public not to approach it. The Illinois Department of Natural Resources is aware of the sighting and has been in contact with a wildlife biologist. The public is encouraged to keep their distance and allow the bear to move on.

A man from Carbondale, Illinois, has been charged with theft after allegedly stealing a backhoe and driving it about 10 miles to catch a flight at Veterans Airport of Southern Illinois. Security camera footage captured the man arriving at the airport on the backhoe and leaving it in the parking lot before walking across the street to the airport lobby carrying a guitar case. The owner of the backhoe later identified the equipment as belonging to his company and said it had been parked at a job site.

Marcus Domask, the 2019 Wisconsin Mr. Basketball recipient, has committed to play for the University of Illinois after entering the transfer portal on March 29. The 6-foot-6 forward previously played for Southern Illinois, where he led the team in points, rebounds, and assists for the second consecutive season. Domask leaves Southern Illinois as the program's ninth all-time leading scorer with 1,615 points.
