A weekend winter storm will bring accumulating snow along a 1,500-mile stretch from Florida to Maine, including a rare snow event in parts of the South (Florida Panhandle) with palm trees dusted in the morning; advisories extend to central Georgia near Macon and Southeastern Alabama, where several inches of heavy, wet snow are possible, as the system spreads into the Mid-Atlantic, Northeast and New England.

The Northeast and mid-Atlantic will also see a significant drop in temperatures, with Washington, D.C., and Raleigh, North Carolina, experiencing a 20-degree Fahrenheit decrease in just 24 hours. Additionally, the National Hurricane Center is monitoring two disturbances in the Caribbean and Atlantic for possible development.
