Mistrial Declared in California School Safety Officer's Shooting of Teen Mother
A mistrial has been declared in the murder trial of a former California school safety officer charged with fatally shooting an 18-year-old woman as she tried to flee a physical altercation, after the jury failed to reach a verdict. The officer, Eddie Gonzalez, allegedly fired his handgun at the fleeing vehicle, striking the woman, who later died from her injuries. Seven jurors wanted to convict Gonzalez of murder, while five wanted to convict him of voluntary manslaughter. The district attorney's office will review the case and consider options moving forward.
