The Dangerous Trend of Teens Experimenting with Influencer-Promoted Steroid Alternatives on TikTok
Influencers on TikTok are promoting steroid-like drugs, including selective androgen receptor modulators (SARMs), to millions of teenagers and young adults. These unregulated substances, often sold as "legal steroids," pose serious health risks such as heart attack and psychosis. The influencers target young audiences with hashtags like #teenfitness and downplay the risks while showcasing body transformations. Videos promoting these substances have been viewed 420 million times by people aged 18 to 24 in the past three years. The report calls for lawmakers to crack down on sales of these substances and urges TikTok to increase scrutiny of its content. SARMs are synthetic drugs marketed for muscle gain and fat loss, but they are unregulated and often contaminated or mislabeled.
