Mamdani Expands NYC Privacy Shield Against Federal Immigration Enforcement
New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani signed Executive Order No. 13 to shield residents from federal immigration enforcement, barring city agencies from sharing city-held information with DHS unless legally required, requiring internal privacy officers within 14 days, auditing agency policies (NYPD, Department of Correction, Probation, Administration for Children's Services, and Department of Social Services), and prohibiting entry to city property without a warrant. The city also launched a Know Your Rights campaign distributing over 30,000 multilingual flyers, while DHS criticized the move as undermining public safety.
