"Whitmer's Bold Move: Repealing Abortion Insurance Requirement in Michigan"
Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer has repealed a requirement for a separate insurance rider for abortion coverage, signing the final piece of the state's Reproductive Health Act into law. This move comes after voters enshrined abortion rights in the state's constitution last year, and ahead of the 2024 elections where Democrats plan to highlight the issue. Whitmer, a vocal supporter of abortion rights, has made the issue a central part of her campaign. Only 2.5% of the more than 27,000 abortions in Michigan last year were paid for by insurance. The controversial insurance rider requirement was approved in 2013 by the then-Republican-led legislature.
