"Iconic Star Betelgeuse Temporarily Vanishes in Rare Eclipse Spectacle"
A rare celestial event is set to occur as the asteroid Leona passes in front of the red supergiant star Betelgeuse, creating a unique eclipse visible along a narrow path from central Asia to parts of Mexico. Astronomers hope to gather more information about Betelgeuse and Leona during the 15-second eclipse, which could result in a total eclipse or a "ring of fire" eclipse. Betelgeuse, one of the largest and brightest stars in the night sky, is thousands of times brighter than our sun and is expected to go supernova within 100,000 years.
