Ram has canceled its fully electric Ram 1500 REV project due to declining demand for full-size electric trucks in North America, but will rebrand its hybrid Ramcharger as the new Ram 1500 REV, while also reintroducing the V-8 engine in its trucks amid shifting EV strategies across automakers.
Ram, a brand under Stellantis, has unveiled the 2025 Ram 1500 Ramcharger, an electric truck that features a 92 kWh battery pack with 145 miles of range and a 3.6-liter V6 engine coupled with a 130 kW generator. This combination gives the Ramcharger a targeted range of 690 miles, along with impressive performance capabilities. The truck can go from zero to 60 mph in 4.4 seconds, has 663 horsepower, and a towing capacity of 14,000 pounds. It also offers bi-directional charging capabilities and an onboard power panel. Ram aims to position the Ramcharger as a bridge technology to ease range anxiety and introduce customers to electrification, with plans to produce a pure battery electric truck in the future.
Stellantis' new Ram 1500 Ramcharger pickup, set to be released late next year, will be a hybrid truck with a gasoline engine acting as a generator to charge the batteries and power the electric motors that drive the wheels. With a range of up to 145 miles on electric power alone and a total range of about 690 miles, the Ramcharger aims to address range anxiety concerns. It can also utilize fast chargers for quick battery recharging. The Ramcharger will be sold alongside the fully-electric Ram REV, providing an option for customers who are still worried about range anxiety.
