Minnesota's 507 region to receive new area code 924.

The Minnesota Public Utilities Commission has announced that a new area code, 924, will be introduced to serve phone customers in Southern Minnesota, in addition to the current 507 area code, which could run out of numbers by 2025. The new area code will only be assigned to new phone lines and will not impact anyone with a current 507 area code.

The decision could be a multibillion-dollar victory for companies that had to buy electricity on the wholesale market during the storm and claim they were charged too much. If the decision is upheld, the PUC may have to order electricity generation companies to issue refunds that could add up to billions of dollars.
