Colorado's Public Utility Commission has announced that a new area code, 748, will be introduced in the first quarter of 2026 for customers in the 970-area code overlay region who request new services or move their existing service. Current customers will retain their existing phone numbers and area codes. The new area code is necessary as the current 970 area code is projected to run out of phone numbers by 2026. This will be Colorado's sixth area code, with the implementation process expected to take nine months.

The Minnesota Public Utilities Commission has announced that a new area code, 924, will be introduced to serve phone customers in Southern Minnesota, in addition to the current 507 area code, which could run out of numbers by 2025. The new area code will only be assigned to new phone lines and will not impact anyone with a current 507 area code.

The new area code will ensure residents and businesses have access to a sufficient supply of telephone numbers to serve the area, as the 507 area code is expected to run out of new numbers in early 2025. Minnesota has introduced a new area code, 326, to meet the increasing demand for telephone numbers. The new code will be added to the existing 651 area code, which covers the eastern part of the state, including the Twin Cities. The change will not affect existing telephone numbers, but new numbers issued in the affected counties will have the new area code. A river flood warning is also in effect for several counties in Minnesota.
