"2023 Sets Record for Firearms Intercepted at Airport Security Checkpoints Nationwide"
The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) reported a record-high number of 6,737 firearms intercepted at airport security checkpoints in 2023, with 93% of them being loaded. TSA administrator David Pekoske expressed concern over the high number of loaded firearms, emphasizing that firearms and ammunition are strictly prohibited in carry-on baggage. Travelers who bring firearms to checkpoints will face penalties, and proper procedures for transporting firearms in checked baggage were reiterated.
