Next-Gen 12V-2x6 Connector: Improved Safety and Design Replaces 12VHPWR

PCI-SIG has revealed the design for the 12V-2x6 PCIe 6.0 connector, which will replace the 12VHPWR connector and offer the same 600W power delivery while addressing the issue of melting plugs. The new connector will be compatible with existing form factor specifications and will allocate additional power through the PCIe slot. The specifications are not yet finalized, but the new connector is expected to be implemented in next-gen graphics cards arriving in 2025.

"PCIe 7.0: Insanely Fast 512GB/s Speeds Expected by 2027"

PCI Special Interest Group (PCI-SIG) has released draft specifications version 0.3 of PCIe Express 7.0, which is expected to feature speeds of up to 128 GT/s per pin and double the bandwidth for PCIe devices. However, the technology is not expected to be in consumer markets until at least 2027, and prior generations, such as PCIe 6.0, are still in the testing stages. PCI-SIG is also working on finalizing its PCIe 5.0 and PCIe 6.0 technology, with two different cabling specifications expected to launch by Q4 2023.

PCIe 7.0 Draft Specs Target 512GB/s Speeds for 2025 Release.

The PCI Special Interest Group (PCI-SIG) has released the first draft of the PCIe 7.0 specification, aiming for a 2025 release. PCIe 7.0 will double the amount of bandwidth available to PCIe devices, bringing a single lane up to 16GB/second of full-duplex, bidirectional bandwidth. The PCI-SIG is also developing cabling specifications for PCIe 5.0 and PCIe 6.0, expected to be released in Q4 of this year, to maintain/extend channel reach with the latest standards.
