Joe Biden's Secret Apology to Muslim Americans: "I'm Sorry... I'm Disappointed in Myself"

President Joe Biden privately apologized to a group of Muslim Americans for his skepticism over the number of Palestinian deaths released by the Hamas-run Ministry of Health. The meeting, which went over its scheduled time, included community figureheads who expressed their disappointment and pressed Biden on the issue of ceasefire. Biden reportedly apologized, expressing his disappointment in himself and vowing to do better. Biden's Controversial Remarks on Palestinian Conflict Spark Backlash and Defiance

The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) criticized President Biden for expressing "no confidence" in the Palestinian death toll figures reported by Hamas, calling his remarks "shocking and dehumanizing." CAIR demanded an apology from Biden and urged him to condemn the Israeli government for targeting civilians and to call for a ceasefire. The White House reiterated Biden's commitment to avoiding Palestinian civilian casualties. Biden's comments came in response to a question about Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's handling of civilian casualties in Israel's response to Hamas attacks. CAIR has faced controversy in the past for alleged ties to extremist groups.

Dutch Supreme Court Grants Immunity to Israeli Military in Netherlands

The Dutch supreme court has ruled that two former Israeli military commanders, including ex-defense minister Benny Gantz, are immune from civil prosecution in the Netherlands over the deaths of six Palestinians in an Israeli airstrike. The court upheld a previous appeals court finding that Gantz and ex-air force commander Amir Eshel, as high-ranking officials carrying out government policy, cannot be held liable in a Dutch civil case. The plaintiff, Ismail Ziada, a Dutch national of Palestinian origin, sought damages against Gantz under Dutch universal jurisdiction rules. Human rights groups have accused both sides of war crimes during the 2014 Gaza conflict, in which approximately 2,200 Palestinians and 73 Israelis were killed.

Israeli forces kill multiple Palestinians in West Bank clashes.

Israeli forces shot dead a 23-year-old Palestinian man who they claimed was approaching them with a knife drawn, near Ramallah in the occupied West Bank. This killing adds to the current round of bloodshed and puts 2023 on track to be one of the worst years for violence in the Palestinian territories for years, with at least 84 Palestinians killed so far this year. Last year, more than 170 Palestinians were killed in Israeli raids in the occupied West Bank and east Jerusalem, making it one of the deadliest years in the occupied territories since 2004.
