Space-Based Lasers Trace the Ice Melt Driving Sea-Level Acceleration
A PNAS study using satellite laser ranging shows that ocean mass increase from melting land ice—especially Greenland and mountain glaciers—now dominates global sea-level rise, contributing about 60% of the ~90 mm rise from 1993–2022, and aligning with satellite altimeter measurements to improve climate projections.
