"Discovery of Cold War-Era Nuclear-Capable Rocket in Washington State Garage Sparks Police Investigation"
A Cold War-era rocket designed to carry a nuclear warhead was discovered in the garage of a deceased resident in Washington state. The military-grade rocket, a McDonnell Douglas AIR-2 Genie, was found to be inert and without any explosive hazard. The National Museum of the U.S. Air Force in Dayton, Ohio, was offered the item, and it was left with a neighbor to be restored for display in a museum, as the military did not request it back. The rocket was a relic from the late 1940s and 1950s, used by both American and Canadian military forces for intercepting Soviet strategic bombers.
