A former Taunton crossing guard, Louis Chaves, appeared in court after allegedly assaulting a parent and her daughter with a stop sign outside a school, and later shoving news crews covering the incident. Chaves, who pleaded not guilty to multiple assault charges, was released on personal recognizance but ordered to avoid contact with the victims.
