Christian Rayo, who was awaiting trial for a murder charge related to a New Year's Eve chase that resulted in the death of a 12-year-old girl, has died in custody at the Harris County jail in Texas. Rayo suffered a medical emergency and was pronounced dead at a hospital. His death is being investigated by the Texas Rangers. This marks the 18th inmate death in Harris County custody this year and the third in four days. The county has been grappling with a high number of jail deaths in recent years, prompting concerns about jail conditions and solutions.
