California's Rooftop Solar Industry Plummets Amidst NEM 3.0 Policy
California's rooftop solar industry has experienced an 80% drop in installations and over 17,000 job losses, representing 22% of the industry, following the introduction of Net Energy Metering (NEM) 3.0 and market rate cuts for rooftop solar generation. The policy changes significantly reduced compensation rates for exporting solar energy to the grid, leading to concerns about the state's ability to meet its clean energy goals. The California Solar and Storage Association (CALSSA) has called for measures to repair the damage, including rejecting proposed fixed charges, simplifying regulations, and promoting energy storage initiatives.
