The North Carolina Department of Transportation has released a map showing proposed locations for electric vehicle (EV) charging stations to be funded through a federal program. Businesses can apply for funds to build and operate these stations, which will help advance clean transportation and provide economic opportunities. The first phase will focus on installing DC Fast Chargers along interstates and major highways, with plans to deploy them every 50 miles and be open 24/7. The state anticipates building out the electric charging infrastructure over the next seven years.

Plane Crash on I-26: Investigation Ongoing as All Lanes Reopen

All lanes of Interstate 26 near Asheville's airport have reopened after a small plane crashed onto the highway, causing closures in both directions. The crash resulted in power outages and sent two people to the hospital. The closure was necessary for repairs to the damaged pavement and power lines. The FAA is investigating the crash, and the National Transportation Safety Board is also involved in the investigation.

Cape Fear River Bridge in Bladen County Reopens, Normal School Schedule Resumes.

The U.S. 701 Bridge over the Cape Fear River in Elizabethtown, North Carolina, has reopened after emergency repairs were made overnight due to heavy rainfall that eroded soil from underneath a concrete column and cap and wing wall. The N.C. Department of Transportation worked with contract crews to fill and pack the void with clay and sand, then poured concrete over the former void to stabilize the bridge’s substructures. The bridge reopened two days earlier than projected, and the detour was about 30 miles.
