WhatsApp now allows users to log into their accounts on multiple smartphones, in addition to tablets, computers, and browsers. Users can link their accounts by scanning a QR code on their primary device. WhatsApp treats the original smartphone as the "primary" device, but users can switch to a new primary device by downloading a fresh version of the app and logging in with their phone number. The feature has been highly requested by users.

Google Authenticator has released an update for Android and iOS that allows users to back up their two-factor authentication one-time passwords (OTPs) to their Google Accounts and have multi-device support. This update addresses one of the biggest critiques of the app, which was the inability to back up one-time 2FA codes and the lack of multi-device support. With this feature, users can now synchronize their 2FA codes with their Google account and add their 2FA codes to multiple devices.

WhatsApp's "companion mode" is now rolling out to all beta users on Android, allowing users to use their account across multiple handsets. The mode differs from the "Linked devices" function as it allows users to link up to four phones at once. However, some features may still not be available, such as the ability to manage broadcast lists and post a status update from the linked device. The new companion mode is only currently available to WhatsApp beta users on Android.
