Vermont's Post-Thanksgiving Covid Outbreaks Hit Schools and Care Facilities

Vermont has reported an increase in Covid-19 outbreaks in seven long-term care facilities and one school following Thanksgiving, although overall Covid levels in the state remain low. The long-term care outbreaks resulted in 17 cases among residents and 21 cases among staff, but no hospitalizations. The Lake Champlain Waldorf School closed its lower grades after nine faculty members tested positive for Covid. Vermont's Covid situation is described as mixed, with some metrics showing elevated levels compared to the summer. The state reported 41 hospital admissions and eight additional Covid deaths in the past week. Flu activity remains minimal, and 17% of Vermonters are up to date on the Covid vaccine.

COVID-19 Cases Surge in Lancaster County and Lincoln Area

The Lincoln-Lancaster County Health Department has reported an increase in COVID-19 cases, including in some long-term care facilities, with 185 cases reported for the week ending November 11 compared to an average of 113 per week over the last four weeks. Wastewater analysis also showed a rise in viral particles detected. The Health Department recommends updating COVID-19 vaccines for the fall and winter, and has detected a slight increase in flu and RSV cases. A new data dashboard has been launched to track respiratory illnesses in the community.
