"Former Manson Family Member Finally Freed After 5 Reversed Parole Decisions"
Leslie Van Houten, a former member of the Manson Family, has been released from prison after spending 53 years in custody for her involvement in the brutal murders of a married couple in 1969. Van Houten's parole was granted after being denied more than 20 times, and her release was upheld by an appeals court. She will spend the next year in a transitional living facility as she adjusts to life outside of prison. Van Houten's attorney stated that she is pleased her efforts at reforming herself in prison have been recognized, but the victims' relatives expressed frustration at her parole.
