Leslie Van Houten, Manson Family Member, Released from California Prison

Leslie Van Houten, a former member of the Manson family and convicted murderer, has been released from a California prison and placed under parole supervision. Van Houten, who was serving concurrent sentences for her role in the killings of Leno and Rosemary LaBianca, will have a three-year maximum parole term with a parole discharge review after one year. California Governor Gavin Newsom's office announced that it would not challenge the court's ruling that opened the possibility of parole for Van Houten. Following 53 years in custody, Van Houten will participate in a transitional housing program to help her reintegrate into society.
