India is deploying an additional 10,000 troops and reallocating forces to its border with China, escalating military readiness following a deadly clash in June 2020. The move comes amid ongoing tensions and overlapping territorial claims along the Line of Actual Control (LAC). Both countries have maintained a significant military presence in the Eastern Ladakh region, with 21 rounds of talks held to resolve the standoff. India's defense minister warned of a firm response to any attack, while China hopes for mutual trust and peace. The Indian government has approved the construction of a 35km-long tunnel under the Brahmaputra river to transport soldiers to the Line of Actual Control (LAC) with China and to bring about rapid development of the area with minimal disturbance to the environment. The tunnel will reduce the distance between Gohpur and Numaligarh to 33km and the time to half an hour. The project will also provide relief to the existing traffic on NH-37 and enhance national security by allowing defence personnel to be transported through the tunnel to Arunachal Pradesh, bordering China.

While China has blamed India for violating past agreements, India has warned that the overall bilateral relationship is at stake due to the tensions at the border. The word "disengagement" has disappeared from China's official statements on the border stand-off, as Beijing appears to offer New Delhi to accept the "new normal". A Chinese scholar has taken a pessimistic view of India-China relations going forward, citing a lack of forward momentum, normal cooperation, and strategic mutual trust.
