"Diamondbacks' Carson Kelly Designated for Assignment, Marking the End of the Paul Goldschmidt Trade Era"
Originally Published 2 years ago — by CBS Sports

The Arizona Diamondbacks have designated catcher Carson Kelly for assignment, nearly closing the chapter on the Paul Goldschmidt trade. Kelly, acquired in the 2018 trade, has had a mixed performance with the Diamondbacks, batting .230 with 44 home runs and 153 RBI. The trade has not worked out as desired for Arizona, with other players involved also leaving the organization. In addition to Kelly, outfield prospect Kristian Robinson was also designated for assignment. The Diamondbacks made several other transactions, including optioning pitcher Ryne Nelson and infielder Emmanuel Rivera to the minors, activating backstop Gabriel Moreno from the injured list, and purchasing the contracts of infielder Buddy Kennedy and right-hander Bryce Jarvis.
