'Killer Bees' Claim 6 Lives in Nicaragua Bus Crash

Six people, including a mother and her 8-year-old daughter, were stung to death by a swarm of "killer bees" during a bus ride in Nicaragua earlier this week. The bus skidded off the road and plunged 165 feet down a ravine, landing in a coffee plantation field that was home to a number of disturbed killer Africanized bees. Six people ultimately died from the killer bees' stings and 14 others were hospitalized after the incident. The Africanized honey bee, also known as the killer bee, is a cross-breed between the European honey bee and the African honey bee.

Deadly Bus Crash Results in Six Fatalities from Killer Bee Stings

Six people, including an 8-year-old girl, were killed by a swarm of Africanized bees after a bus they were riding in plunged into a ravine in Nicaragua. The bus disturbed a hive of the deadly insects, causing the passengers to be repeatedly stung. The Africanized honey bee is considered far more dangerous than single-breed honey bees because they react to disturbances 10 times faster and can sting up to 10 times more. The incident left a further 14 passengers severely injured.
