The Cincinnati Reds defeated the St. Louis Cardinals with the help of new stars Jose Barrero and Delino DeShields Jr. DeShields scored from first on Spencer Steer's double, while Barrero rifled a fastball to score Matt McLain. Pitcher Abbott pitched 5 2/3 scoreless innings in his second career start, and Luke Maile had a pair of doubles and drove in three runs for the Reds.
