Watchdog: FBI Informants Present, No Agents at Capitol Riot

A Justice Department report reveals that over two dozen FBI informants were present in Washington, D.C., during the January 6 Capitol riot, but no full-time undercover agents participated. The report criticizes the FBI for not adequately using its field offices to gather intelligence that might have predicted the riot. Despite conspiracy theories suggesting FBI involvement, the report clarifies that informants were not authorized to enter the Capitol, though four did. The FBI's handling of intelligence and informants has been scrutinized, while President-elect Donald Trump has promised to pardon many convicted rioters.

Trump Bombshell Triggers Chaos: Dominoes Falling, Fake Electors Exposed

CNN's Jake Tapper asked New York Times correspondent and CNN analyst Maggie Haberman if the recent reporting on a former ally spilling about ex-President Donald Trump's election plot signifies the start of a wave of informants. Haberman noted that the ally's cooperation with investigations in Michigan and Wisconsin could be damaging to Trump, but it remains uncertain if others in Trump's circle, such as former White House Chief of Staff Mark Meadows, will flip. The conversation also highlighted Trump's tendency to seek out opinions that align with his desires, even if they come from unfamiliar sources.

Palestinian Militants Execute Alleged IDF Spies, Publicly Display Corpses

Two Palestinian men accused of collaborating with Israel were executed and their bodies publicly displayed in Tulkarm on the West Bank. The men were allegedly involved in the deaths of three Palestinian fighters. The "Resistance Security" organization claimed responsibility for the executions, emphasizing a zero-tolerance policy for informants. Violence in the West Bank has escalated since Hamas attacks on Israel in October, with the IDF conducting arrests and targeted assassinations, and extremist Jewish settlers launching attacks on Palestinians.

Proud Boys' Conviction and Far-Right Threats: What Comes Next?

The recent conviction of four members of the Proud Boys for seditious conspiracy has overshadowed the fact that both the former leader, Enrique Tarrio, and as many as eight other Proud Boys were FBI informants, helping law enforcement to target left-wing activists. Shockingly, only two news outlets mentioned this fact, potentially obscuring the FBI's failure to prevent the Capitol riot and its historical fixation on left-wing protests. The media's failure to mention the FBI's link to the Proud Boys ensures that law enforcement agencies face no accountability for their stunning failures on the day, ironically making a repeat of the Capitol riot far more likely.

Proud Boys informants exposed during trial.

In a rare move, at least four FBI sources were called as witnesses for the defense in the ongoing trial of five Proud Boys leaders accused of seditious conspiracy in connection with the Jan. 6 Capitol riot. The role reversal highlights intelligence failures leading up to the riot, as the FBI was unprepared despite having inroads into the groups now accused of plotting the violence. Defense attorneys have said in court that they count eight or nine informants referenced during the proceedings. The trial has lasted nearly three months.

FBI Informants Play Key Role in Proud Boys Sedition Trial

The trial of five Proud Boys accused of sedition in connection with the storming of the Capitol has revealed an unusual number of informants that the FBI had in or near the group. Defense lawyers had suggested that the bureau had as many as eight informants in the far-right organization in the months surrounding Jan. 6, 2021. The newly disclosed informant, a Texas-based activist named Jen Loh, took part in prayer meetings with some of the defendants’ relatives and had multiple contacts with the defendants themselves while they have been in jail. The defense has upended the standard pattern and rather than attacking the informants has embraced them, issuing subpoenas to more than a half-dozen to appear as witnesses at the trial.
