
New York City bans resort fees and requires full upfront lodging costs
NYC Mayor Mamdani announces a rule banning resort/destination fees for hotels, Airbnb, and other lodging advertised in NYC, requiring full upfront disclosure of the total nightly cost; the rule applies even if the stay is booked from outside NYC and imposes fines starting at $525 per day for violations, up to $3,500 for subsequent offenses; deposits must be disclosed, taxes excluded, with enforcement by the Department of Consumer and Worker Protection, effective Feb. 21.
