NASA's Odyssey orbiter has captured a stunning new image of the horizon of Mars, providing a perspective that astronauts visiting the red planet might one day experience. The image, taken from an altitude of about 400 kilometers, allows scientists to compare Mars to Earth by looking at similar photos taken from the International Space Station. The image was captured using Odyssey's Thermal Emission Imaging System (THEMIS), which also revealed the temperature of Mars' clouds and captured a photo of the moon Phobos. Researchers hope to take more images of the Martian horizon to study atmospheric changes with the seasons.
