Ohio's Battle Over Legal Weed: Lawmakers vs. Voters
Ohio has become the 24th state to legalize adult-use marijuana, allowing possession of up to 2.5 ounces and home cultivation of up to six plants. However, lawmakers are rushing to pass legislation to make changes to the voter-approved initiative, including altering potency caps, taxation, home cultivation, and social equity provisions. The Senate proposal would also allow medical marijuana dispensaries to serve recreational customers immediately. Critics argue that the proposed changes do not respect the will of the voters and may hinder competition with the illicit market. The House is set to consider its own marijuana bill.
