Multiple Women Found Guilty of Dumping Infants in New Mexico

A Hobbs mother, Alexis Avila, has been found guilty of first-degree attempted murder for abandoning her newborn in a dumpster when she was a teenager. She faces up to 18 years in prison and her sentencing hearing is set for May 1. The child was placed in the care of the New Mexico Department of Children, Youth and Families. Avila had pleaded not guilty, claiming she didn't know she was pregnant until the day before.
