Paleontologists have found evidence suggesting that injuries on hadrosaur tails are linked to mating behavior, potentially allowing scientists to distinguish male from female dinosaurs and advancing understanding of dinosaur sexual dimorphism.
Scientists have discovered the remains of a new species of herbivorous dinosaur, Gonkoken nanoi, in Chilean Patagonia, which lived 72 million years ago. The discovery challenges long-held beliefs about the range of duck-billed dinosaurs and demonstrates that Chilean Patagonia served as a refuge for very ancient species of hadrosaurs. The slender-looking dinosaurs could easily adopt a bipedal and quadrupedal posture to reach vegetation at height and ground level. The discovery of the fifth species of dinosaur in Chile was found in 2013, kicking off a decade-long investigation.
