Horizon Forbidden West's PC debut on March 21st as part of the Complete Edition will feature graphics presets ranging from low to high, allowing players to customize settings and visuals to their preference. The minimum and recommended system requirements have been revealed, with the Complete Edition bundling the base game and its Burning Shores expansion together, along with in-game items. Guerrilla has confirmed plans for a long-term future for the Horizon series, including a Netflix adaptation, co-op-focused online project, and a third game focused on Aloy, as well as rumors of a Zero Dawn remaster.

Sony recently announced layoffs and project cancellations, including at studios like Insomniac, Naughty Dog, and Firesprite, but Guerrilla's multiplayer Horizon game is reportedly not among the cancelled projects. The Amsterdam-based studio will reportedly lay off about 10% of its over 400 employees as part of the restructuring.

The Horizon franchise, consisting of Horizon Zero Dawn, its Frozen Wilds expansion, Horizon Forbidden West, Burning Shores expansion, and Horizon Call of the Mountain, has sold over 32.7 million units worldwide, with Forbidden West selling over 8.4 million units. Guerrilla, the developer of Horizon Zero Dawn and Forbidden West, has confirmed that a new game in the series is in development and will once again star Aloy. The studio announced that Angie Smets had taken on the head of development strategy role at PlayStation Studios, and that Smet's previous position will be filled by Joel Eschler, Hella Schmidt, and Jan-Bart van Beek. The last game, Forbidden West, planted seeds for a threequel throughout its campaign, and Guerrilla had hinted in December that it was "continuing to create epic solo adventures for Aloy" through a number of transmedia projects.

Sai Kyaw Thu, the deputy director-general of Myanmar's Union Election Commission, was assassinated in Yangon by urban guerrilla group "For The Yangon," which opposes the military-installed government. The group claimed that Sai Kyaw Thu was targeted for being a plaintiff in the election fraud case against Aung San Suu Kyi and for being the deputy director-general of the illegal election commission of the military council. The military seized power in February 2021 and has since clamped down harshly on opponents, triggering widespread armed resistance.

The expansion sees Aloy pursuing a new threat in the volcanic archipelago of Los Angeles. Pre-order bonuses include two cosmetic skins.
