FDA Issues Warning Against Selling Contaminated Groton-Harvested Oysters
The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has issued an advisory to restaurants and retailers across the Northeast to dispose of raw oysters harvested from the Groton Approved Area in Connecticut between August 28 and August 30, as they may be contaminated with pathogens that cause food poisoning. The affected oysters were distributed to several states, including Connecticut, Massachusetts, New York, Pennsylvania, and Virginia. The FDA issued the advisory after sample results showed possible contamination, and the affected area will remain closed until the source of contamination is found. Symptoms of food poisoning from contaminated oysters can include diarrhea, stomach pain, cramps, nausea, vomiting, and fever.
