Salmonella Outbreak: Check Your Onions and Stay Safe
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is investigating a salmonella outbreak in 22 states, with 15 people hospitalized so far. Onions processed at Gills Onions are suspected to be the source of the outbreak, leading to a voluntary recall of bagged, precut onions. The recalled products were sent to several states, but illnesses have been reported in many more. Consumers are advised to check their freezers and refrigerators for recalled onion products, and to discard or return them. Symptoms of salmonella include diarrhea, fever, and stomach cramps, with severe cases requiring medical treatment or hospitalization.
