EU Implements Landmark AI Regulations to Safeguard Against Harmful Effects
The European Union has reached a landmark agreement on rules for artificial intelligence (AI), becoming the first major regulation of its kind in the western world. The EU AI Act categorizes AI into different risk levels and addresses concerns surrounding generative AI models like ChatGPT, as well as the use of biometric identification tools. Germany, France, and Italy have favored self-regulation for generative AI models to avoid stifling Europe's competitiveness. The law follows years of European efforts to regulate AI and aims to address issues such as job displacement, discriminatory language, and privacy infringement.
