"Top Generals Criticize Biden's Handling of Afghanistan Withdrawal"
Retired Gen. Kenneth McKenzie and Gen. Mark Milley criticized the delayed decision to authorize a non-combatant evacuation during the final days of the U.S. war in Afghanistan, stating that warnings about the pace of the withdrawal were expressed to the Biden administration over a month before the chaotic evacuation of Kabul's airport. They argued that the State Department's coordination of the evacuation was behind the pace of the Defense Department's withdrawal, and both agreed that more could have been done to prevent the chaos in August, including leaving behind roughly 2,500 troops to facilitate a more diplomatic end to the conflict.
