"U.S. Oil and Gas Drilling Hits 19-Month Low, Rig Count Rebounds"

The number of active drilling rigs in the United States has dropped to a 19-month low, with a total rig count of 630, according to data from Baker Hughes. This marks a loss of 149 active drilling rigs so far this year and a decrease of 445 rigs compared to the beginning of 2019. The number of oil rigs fell by 8 to 507, while gas rigs fell by 3 to 118. However, crude oil production levels remain high at 12.9 million bpd, up 800,000 bpd from a year ago.

US Gas and Oil Drilling Activity Plummets to Record Lows

The US natural gas industry is experiencing the fastest decline in exploration in seven years due to falling prices for the fuel. The number of rigs searching for natural gas has dropped by 10%, the sharpest weekly pullback since February 2016, according to data from Baker Hughes Co. Gas prices have fallen about 75% since reaching a peak last August due to lower demand and constrained export capacity. However, gas futures climbed on Friday after the rigs data was released, with prices jumping as much as 6.6%.
