Unveiling the Secrets of Galactic Black Holes: Astronomers' Latest Discoveries
Astronomers using the Five-hundred-meter Aperture Spherical radio Telescope (FAST) in China have discovered a quasi-periodic oscillation (QPO) signal in the radio band from a galactic microquasar system, GRS 1915+105. This is the first time such a signal has been observed outside of the X-ray context. The QPO signal, with a period of 0.2 seconds, may provide evidence of activity from a jet launched by a galactic stellar-mass black hole. The researchers suggest that the misalignment between the black hole's spin axis and its accretion disk could be causing this effect. Further observations of microquasars will help unravel the mysteries of these QPO signals.
