Gender Roles Reexamined: Men and Women Defy Traditional Hunter-Gatherer Stereotypes
New research challenges the prevailing belief that only men hunt and women gather in foraging societies. Analyzing data from 63 global foraging societies, the study reveals that women actively hunt in 79% of these societies, employing diverse strategies and even teaching hunting practices. The findings call for a reevaluation of gender roles in historical and present-day foraging cultures and caution against bias in archaeological interpretations.
